Percentages of N:P:K has mentioned on the container of fertilizer. N stands for Nitrogen, P stands for Prosperous and K stands for Potassium. High nitrogen fertilizer must be used for beautiful leaf plants. This grows leaves well. Most of the beautiful leaf plants need shade. And also have to fertilize on correct time. But you have to be careful fertilizing in rainy days. If it rains continuously stop fertilizing. 

In higher water levels fertilizer dissolves very rapidly and spread over the root system with high concentration and will damage plants. Do not fertilize plants like bougainvillea in rainy seasons. You must know about plant maintenance as well as fertilizing in horticulture. 

As well as flowering plants, some beautiful leaf plants also need to prune. Pruning must be done at correct time. This also help to get new plants. Fertilizing must be done after prune. Pruning helps to make a good controlled plant. A balanced fertilizer should used after pruning flowering plants to grow new buds well. After it you can use a flowering fertilizer to get flowers. Remove weeds around plant before apply fertilizer. 

You may have an experience of less growing even using all the treatments well. This may due to the pot. Pot should be in enough volume to grow plant easily. In such a situation you have to change the pot. With this pot change you have to remove dead leaves, flowers and extra shoots. Remove old soil media and fill new pot with a new medium. Use liquid fertilizer just after re-pot. After that you can apply liquid or solid fertilizer in two weeks periods. Use fertilizer with a little less amount. This prevents excess fertilizing.
