Medical Laboratory Tests - Full Blood Count (FBC) Test

Counting the Red Blood Cells (RBC), White Blood Cells (WBC), Platelets in a certain volume of blood and measuring the amount of Hemoglobin (HB) in a certain volume of blood is called Full Blood Count (FBC).

This can be done using manual methods and by an automatic system.

Patient should not be prepared previously for this type of test. Sample can be taken at anytime of the day. Once taking the blood sample, anticoagulant (I.e. E.D.T.A. - Ethylenediamine tetra acetic acid) will be added to sample to prevent clotting.

At a WBC count it may slightly vary from the age and the gender but it should be between 6000 / mm - 11000/mm differential count. In a healthy blood sample Nutrophils 54%, Lymphocytes 42%, Eosinophils 02%, Monocytes 01 % and Basopils 01% of WBC.

RBC is the count of red blood cells in a certain measured volume. The value is 4.2-5.5 x 10E12 // 3.7-5.0 x 10E12. Haemoglobin (HB) amount must be 13.0 - 16.5% in men and 11.5 - 14% in women.
