Nazca Lines, the still unsolved mystery

Nazca Lines, the still unsolved mystery
Nazca lines have created between 500 B.C and 500 A.D. in the history. Those lines are in different shapes and have drown in the middle of the Nazca desert of South Peru. But the meaning of these figures are still a mystery. We first found a note about the Nazca lines in 1553 a book written by Pedro Cieza de Leon. There he was misunderstand those as footpaths use to transport. But in 1927 archeologist, Toribio Mejia Xesspe have seen these wonderful patterns when he climbing mountains near Nazca. After this findings, the world started to know about those from there. Pauld Kosok is the person who did a regular investigation at the first time about those lines. In 1940 he fly across the area to see all of the patterns.

These lines made by removing the red colored iron oxide mixed soil to the white clay soil. Depth of those lines are about 10-15 cm. There is no wind all over the year in this area. Therefore these patterns are lasting at the present passing thousands of years. There are about 300 figures in an area of about 500 square kilo meters. Most of the figures among those are geometric shapes. Over 70 figures shows various animals and human pictures. There are figures of birds, monkey, spider, human, fish, jaguar, flowers, various trees, etc.

Some geometric figures are about 270m long (about 890 ft). Among those figures the hummingbird named figure is 93 meter (310 ft), condor is 134 m (440ft), monkey is 93m (310ft) and spider is 47m (150ft).

There are several concepts about those lines. One is they done that for the sake of religious matters. The other one is these patterns illustrate something of the universe. In 1994 this area was named as a UNESCO world heritage site.
